Online Check Weigher
An online checkweigher is an automated dynamic weighing system used in manufacturing to check the weight of products as they move along a production line, ensuring they meet specified weight tolerances and legal requirements. It compares the measured weight of each item to a target weight, and automatically rejects products that are too heavy or too light, preventing them from reaching the customer and helping to maintain quality, compliance, and efficiency in industries like food, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.
Key Features and Functions
-
Dynamic Weighing:
Checks the weight of products while they are in motion, typically on a conveyor belt.
-
Automatic Classification & Rejection:
Identifies and removes products that are outside the pre-set weight limits (underweight or overweight).
-
Production Line Integration:
Seamlessly integrates into an ongoing production line, measuring products during the manufacturing process.
-
Compliance & Quality Control:
Ensures products comply with legal weight regulations and internal quality standards.
-
Data & Reporting:
Often features digital displays for easy operation and data export via Ethernet or USB for detailed reports on production metrics.
Working Principle
-
Product Transfer:
Products move from an entry conveyor onto a weighing conveyor.
-
Weight Measurement:
As a product is on the weighing conveyor, it exerts pressure on a load cell, which records multiple weight readings to determine the product's accurate weight.
-
Trigger System:
An optical or ultrasonic trigger signals when a package is in the ideal weighing position to ensure accurate sampling.
-
Rejection:
If the product's weight is outside the acceptable range, a rejecter mechanism automatically removes it from the production line.
Applications
Online checkweighers are crucial in various sectors:
- Food & Beverage: For items like packaged sweets, dairy products, meat, and ready-to-eat meals.
- Pharmaceuticals: To ensure the accurate and consistent weight of medicines and vials.
- Cosmetics: For the consistent weight of cosmetic products.
- Pet Food: To check the weight of cans, pouches, and bulk dry foods.
